M I S S E D - U T O P I A
An intrinsic beauty.
In an eroded, neglected and decadent architectural structure, it still flourishes the beauty of the initial thought, of the Utopia, questionable and controversial perhaps, which was the basis of this construction. A dream or rather a vision wrecked then in the harshness of reality but still maintains, despite the neglect, the strength of its own harmony.
But what distinguishes this from other ruins? What is the limit between ruin and decay? Maybe in a thousand years here too tourists will come to Ephesus? And when the palaces of Ephesus were built, has anyone shouted, like here, to the scandal and the monster?
The sea dominates this. A beautiful, eternal, unmoved sea that seems to mock any human artifact destined to perish over time. The architecture plays with this sea creating glimpses at times surprising.
All this has two aspects. Seen from the sea it looks like the carcass of an immense dinosaur lying on the beach, an open wound in the surrounding landscape. From the inside, even in the current degradation, the magic of the project remains intact. Question of viewpoints, a sort of Janus faced by contrasting faces.
Una bellezza intrinseca.
In una struttura architettonica corrosa, trascurata e decadente,fiorisce comunque la bellezza del pensiero iniziale, dell’Utopia, contestabile e discutibile forse, che è stata alla base di questa costruzione. Un sogno o meglio una visione naufragata poi nella durezza della realtà ma che comunque mantiene, nonostante l’incuria,la forza della propria armonia.
Ma cosa distingue questo da altre rovine? Qual è il limite fra rovina e decadenza? Forse fra mille anni anche qui verranno i turisti come a Efeso? E quando furono costruiti i palazzi di Efeso qualcuno ha gridato, come qui, allo scandalo e all’ecomostro?
Il mare domina tutto questo. Un mare bellissimo, eterno, impassibile che sembra irridere qualunque manufatto umano destinato a perire nel tempo. L’architettura gioca con questo mare creando scorci a volte sorprendenti.
Tutto questo ha duplice aspetto. Visto dal mare sembra la carcassa di un immenso dinosauro adagiato sulla spiaggia, una ferita aperta nel paesaggio circostante. Dall’interno, pur nel degrado attuale, resta intatta la magia del progetto. Questione di punti di vista, una sorta di Giano bifronte dai volti in contrasto.
